How to make a word search

  1. 1Type a title and your words. Give the puzzle a title, then paste your words, one per line or comma separated. Three to fifteen letters each works best.
  2. 2Generate the grid. Press Generate. The words are hidden across, down and diagonally in a large-print grid, with the same engine our KDP studio uses.
  3. 3Print the two pages. Press Print. You get two pages: the puzzle on page one and its answer key on page two, sized for clean printing or a PDF.

How to solve a word search

Every word in the list is hidden in the grid. Find and ring each one.

The method

  1. 1Pick a word from the list. Start with a long or unusual word; it stands out and has fewer places to hide.
  2. 2Scan for its first letter. Look across the grid for that letter, then check the squares around it for the second.
  3. 3Follow the straight line. Words run across, down or diagonally, and may read forwards or backwards. Trace the line to the end.
  4. 4Ring it and tick it off. Loop the word in the grid and cross it off the list, so you can see what is left.
The one rule
Each listed word appears once, in a straight line, somewhere in the grid.
What the answer page shows
The answer grid at the back shows every word ringed.
How the grades differ
Bigger grids and longer lists, with more diagonal and backward words, take longer.
Good for
