Space crossword

Blast off on a journey through the solar system. This crossword gathers planets, rockets and far away galaxies for young stargazers to solve. It is a lovely way to spark curiosity about the night sky.

Harder grades use longer answers and give fewer crossing letters.

Smaller grids print larger.

5 answers did not fit this grid and were left out: COMET, VENUS, MOON, STAR, MARS. Try a larger grid or an easier grade.

Two pages: the puzzle with its numbered clues, and a full answer key with the grid filled in. The answers interlock across and down, sized for clean large-print printing.

How to solve a crossword

Fill the white squares so every numbered clue reads across or down.

The method

  1. 1Read the clue and its number. Each number in the grid starts an answer going across or down. Find the clue with that number and direction.
  2. 2Count the squares. The run of white squares after the number tells you how many letters the answer has.
  3. 3Write the answers you are sure of first. Start with the clues you know. Each answer you fill hands letters to the clues that cross it.
  4. 4Use the crossing letters. A shared letter from an answer you have placed narrows a crossing clue, often to a single word.
The one rule
Every white square belongs to an across answer and a down answer, and the two must agree on their shared letter.
What the answer page shows
The completed grid is printed at the back.
How the grades differ
Easier puzzles use common words and plain clues; harder ones use trickier wording and longer answers.
Good for
Word lovers, from a gentle themed puzzle to a classic challenge.
