What Once Books is

A personalised children’s book service. You add a few photos of your child, choose a story and one of 24 art styles, and we generate a picture book starring them — the same face, the same style, cover to back. It’s yours to read on any device, or to order in print.

Why we started

Image models are stateless — they don’t remember what they drew a moment ago — so a naive AI book drifts: new face, new proportions, a different art style halfway through. We were tired of “personalised” books that didn’t actually look like the child, so we built the missing part: a way to keep one character recognisable across a whole book.

What we actually made

A consistency engine, not a prompt. We lock a character description and your approved reference images, freeze a single art style onto the book, and re-supply all of it on every page — so the hero is the same child cover to back. The line we won’t cross

This is a product about children, so we hold a hard line on their likeness: photos are used only to build the book and never to train AI, books are private by default, and we are honest about what we can’t guarantee. That stance is spelled out on child safety.
